What is MCSARG?
Maricopa County Search and Rescue Group L.L.C. a.k.a. MCSARG is an independent fund raising organization whose members are the five Maricopa County Sheriff’s all volunteer Search and Rescue Posses listed here. The Jeep Posse, The Desert Search Unit Posse, The Medical Rescue Posse, The Mark 9 Canine Posse and The Air Posse.
MCSARG is not affiliated or sponsored by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
What do our members do?
Members of these Posses donate thousands of hours per year in an effort to prepare for and respond to calls for help from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Search and Rescue Missions. Members of these posses receive no funding, financing, or monetary reimbursement whatsoever from any government organization. They use their own vehicles, buy their own equipment and uniforms, pay for their own insurance, and incur costs for training, fuel and much much more. They pay for all of this themselves and, to date, have received very few donations from the public.
The Posses do all that they do so that they may help the citizens of Maricopa County at a time when they may very well be in danger. That is to say when they are lost, stranded, hurt and alone in the desert and mountainous areas of Maricopa County and beyond.
Can you imagine being broken down or out of gas in the middle of nowhere? What if your ATV over turned and you broke your leg or were knocked unconscious? What if you slipped on a hiking trail and twisted your ankle? Can you imagine the fear and concern you might have if your child did not come home from school on time or your toddler wandered away from home? What would you do if a loved one were late coming home from a camping trip? How about an elderly family member with Alzheimer’s discovered missing in the middle of the night from home or their group housing facility. What would you do? Who would you call?
These are just a few of the hundreds of missions in which these brave and selfless volunteers have participated. Forsaking their own jobs, families and personal time to help you or your loved ones.
How much would you be willing to pay to have someone come looking for you or your loved ones under any of these circumstances? These volunteers perform these services 100% free of charge to not only the victims they help but also at no cost to the taxpayers.
What we need!
We need your help. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s office is upgrading its radio network to comply with changes made by the FCC. The county never has and will not in the future pay for posse member’s communication equipment. The new radios we will need are expected to cost each member $5000 . Many of us are required to equip our personal vehicles with emergency equipment. Some examples are medical supplies that need to be replaced often, rescue equipment, winches, tow straps, high rise vehicle jacks, tools, fire extinguishers, radios, and in some cases emergency lights and sirens. Additionally, the maintenance on personally owned vehicles and airplanes, the care and training of personal search and rescue animals, uniform and personal safety equipment, as well as rising fuel costs put a substantial burden on Posse Members.
